Nur Thai

Nur Thai (31-01 34th Ave, Astoria, NY 11106) has a welcoming atmosphere with thoughtful decor: blue seating, white tabletops, patterned tile, and a red neon sign glowing against a dark floral wall. I visited for lunch as a party of two, and the room already felt comfortable in daylight. I could imagine it working even better at dinner, when the lighting deepens and the room has more time to settle.

The room is playful without feeling messy. Peach napkins soften the tables, the patterned floor gives the space movement, and the blue booths make the room feel dressed up without becoming stiff. There is still enough space between seats for privacy, so the meal feels unhurried enough for conversation.

My waiter checked in often to make sure the table was enjoying the meal, and the attentiveness felt genuine rather than scripted. The service added to the relaxed feeling instead of interrupting it.

I ordered the khao soi, a Northern Thai curry noodle soup. The egg noodles were supple and carried a subtle egg flavor before the curry took over. The broth was creamy, warm with turmeric and ginger, and softened by a hint of coconut milk. Crispy fried noodles on top added crunch, so each spoonful moved between soft noodles, rich curry, and a little crackle.

Overall, Nur Thai serves well-prepared Thai food in a setting that feels considered and welcoming. I would send someone there for khao soi, an easy lunch, or a quieter dinner when the room matters too; for food alone, it leans slightly pricey, but the service and atmosphere made the value feel fair.
